Labor and Delivery (New!)

FAQ:

Why Labor and Delivery Photography?
The photos from your Labor and Delivery will serve you as a precious reminder of one of the happiest days of your life.  Allowing myself, the photographer, Jen Parton, handle the photography on your special day will free the hands of those who are also involved in your day, and will also be captured on film.  Take it from me...do not leave it up to grandma to capture those irreplaceable moments in your birth journey.  Without a professional birth photographer, you may be left with just a few blurry snaps of the baby after delivery and nothing to document the labor process and the incredible birth miracle: What did your baby look like the moment he came into this world? What was your reaction? Who was in the room? Who smiled? Who cried?  Unfortunately, I am left with these questions from the day of my birth of my little girl.    It would be an honor to create a photo documentary of the birth of your child.  I will take very special care to photograph every detail you want to remember and most importantly, capture all those things you might miss through the fog of labor and emotion.

Where do you photograph?
I will capture your birth at home, the hospital, or a birth center environment all over the Inland Empire, and Orange County.

How many Births do you photograph per month?
I limit myself, so that is why it is so important to book as soon as possible!

How would you describe the style of your birth photography?
Birth photography is documentary photography at it’s finest. No two births are ever the same and I am there to document your experience in a very modest, intimate, and artistic way.  All photographs are edited in the most intimate black and whites.  The reason for this? Black and white photography is monumental, it is soft, it is priceless.  If you are interested in having your photos edited otherwise, please let me know!

How do you handle the intense setting?
I understand my role to document quietly and unobtrusively.  You can consider me "a fly on the wall" during your cherished moments.

How does this work, are you on-call ?
Yes. Much like a doctor I am on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week anticipating your new arrival. I am typically on call for two weeks before and two weeks after your due date.

When do you come to the birth, and how long do you stay afterwards?
I come to your chosen place of birth during active labor, and stay until about 3 hours afterwards.  I love photographing the first moments of your new life, such as your new baby meeting Family members, and the exciting first exam made by your Pediatrician.

Do you photograph Cesareans?
YES! If it is scheduled Cesarean, please contact your OB Doctor and discuss with them that you will have a Photographer on site.  Some Doctors love the thought of having your moment photographed, and some are strict about allowing the photographer in the Operating Rom.  Just let me know the outcome of your discussion with your OB!

Will I get to meet you before my birth?
Absolutely! I love to meet my clients before I work with them!  I  schedule a consultation with every client to discuss what the experience will be like, answer any questions you may have, and discuss preferences on what you do and do not want photographed. At the consultation we also review the birth packages and help you decide which photography package is right for you!

How much does it cost?
On the investments page, I have my Birth Story package listed.  Prices may vary according to travel, and may be made more specific to your needs.

Do you offer gift certificates?
YES! Please e-mail me, or fill out your information on the contact page & I will get back to you ASAP!

What do I get out of this?
bouquet of flowers :), approximately 75 fully edited images placed on a high resolution disc, a slideshow placed on a DVD matched with your favorite songs and 20 4x6 prints.   Different packages are also available.  A consultation is recommended before delivery so we can go over you specific wants and needs.

When will we receive our CD/DVD?
Within 2-3 weeks.

Philosophy:

My goal during the labor and delivery photo session is to be as non-intrusive as possible. The only equipment brought in will be the camera, and all photos will be shot in natural lighting (No flash will be used as to prevent any possible disruption). I will witness the event as an observer, and the photos will be taken in that nature, so I will not disturb or interrupt the attending medical staff, yourself, or your friends/family members.
Please note that if any event occurs in the delivery room that requires treatment or urgent medical attention for you or your baby, or causes the planned delivery method to change (i.e., C-section), inevitably I will be required to leave the delivery room for the remaining duration of your labor and delivery. I will stand by and try to get additional shots once the baby is delivered, unless otherwise restricted. Keep in mind that the most important thing is that you have a safe and controlled labor and delivery, and ultimately your doctor and nurse’s job is more important than ours.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions.  I am so excited to be a part of your very special day.  I also offer a referral program! Ask about it!!!
